We are not a restaurant. Rather, much like you, we are looking for those special places which make an effort to come up with something different.

As with "other issues" there just aren't the sort of communication channels one requires to make people aware of the facts. And without facts and the information most people will simply bury their heads in the sand. Why was it necessary for the Government to close down the Abalone fishing industry? This must have been devastating for the families involved and it comes right back to the question you are asking. Who is responsible? What can we and what should we be doing?

I think there has also been a food festival in Cape Town recently and yes this is the sort of thing we need to raise the awareness of and the appreciation for good food. We need to get people talking, get them interested and to keep them talking. And if we start talking about tourism, what about a food route that starts on the West Coast and winds its way up to the Mocambique border?

I couldn't agree more. As the owner of a Seafood Outlet in Knysna it is sometimes frustrating to minimise our selection of Fresh Seafood due to the poor demand. Thankfully this trend is changing and the culture of eating Seafood is creeping into South Africa. Have a look at the Gastronomica Website - a community of people serious about their food and its orogins. We promote Sustainable Seafood using Gastronomica as a vehicle for this purpose.
